Bangladesh has a large amount of wildlife in its forests, woodlands, marshes and hills. Most of the animals live within a habitat of 150,000 km2. The main predators in the Sundarbans are the Bengal tiger, clouded leapard, saltwater crocodile, black panther and fishing cat. Other animals Bangladesh is home to are; the Asian elephant, hoolock gibbon, Asian black bear, oriental pied hornbill, the Chital deer, the black giant squirrel, capped langur, Bengal fox, sambar deer, jungle cat, king cobra, wild boar, mongooses, pangolins, pythons and water monitors. The country has numerous species of amphibians, reptiles, marine reptiles and marine mammals. It has 628 species of birds.

The human population is mainly in urban areas,so deforestation is limited to a certain point. Rapid urban expansion has threatened natural habitats.
